Annan Thampi : Review
Annan Thampi, a film where Mammootty plays a double role. The film is set to release for a Vishu release.
Elaborating on the double role, the young director who made Chotta Mumbai with Mohanlal last year, said, "It was the search for a character that Mammootty hasn't done, which led script writer Benny P Nayaramabalam and I to create the mute character and original hero of Annan Thampi. As the discussions went on, we decided to add a twin brother as well, who is quite unlike his 'vocally challenged' brother."
Director Anwar Rasheed created quite a sensation at the box office with his debut film Rajamanikyam starring Mammootty. Rajamanikyam is said to be one of Malayalam cinema's biggest hits.
As for Mammootty, he said he was aware of the high expectations from the viewers as the film comes from the team that created Rajamanikyam. "But I think the audiences are looking forward to a variety in roles. I am happy that my recent roles have different shades. Acting in Annan Thampi has been a very interesting experience for me," said our hero.
Elaborating further on Mammootty's role, script writer Benny said, "The Annan or the elder brother in Annan Thampi is a tapori kind of hard nut living in Pollachi. Thampi or the younger brother is a mute character and an actor in a ballet troupe. "They are twins but are not really fond of each other. Their parents decided to separate the kids when they were small. The elder of the two was sent to a relative's place in Pollachi. The two continued their dislike even after growing up but years later, they come to realise the strength of the blood ties."
Gopika and Lakshmi Rai are the heroines in Annan Thampi. The former plays the mute character's wife while the latter plays the tapori character's love interest.
The cast also include Siddique, Janardhanan, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Salim Kumar and Harisree Asokan.
Annan Thampi is being produced by Shahul Hameed Marikar and Anto Joseph under the banner of Marikar films. Lokanathan wields the camera while Rahul Raj is the man behind the film's music.
The success of 'Annan Thambi' is a directorial achievement, for the screenplay by Benny. P Nairambalam is banal to say the least.
The highlight of the film is, of course, Mammootty's double role gimmick, that has all his fans howling and clapping in delirium.
This brings another Super hit for Mammootty.
