Shakira performing Oral Fixation
The much awaited concert by Columbian singing sensation, Shakira, got underway at the MMRDA grounds in Mumbai on Sunday night after an hour's delay.
The 5000-something crowd were immediatedly mollified when the hip-shaking songstress launched into a Spanish song from her album Oral Fixation. Soon, she had the crowds chanting her name.
Before every song, Shakira, clad in an midriff-baring outfit, launched into a brief history about how the song came along.
She rocked with the guitar and even performed an act with a mouth organ against a backdrop of sun and moon patterns. Don't Bother, Whenever Wherever and Illegal were some of the numbers she performed to the enthusiastic crowd. Colombian pop star Shakira left thousands of fans in Mumbai spellbound by her amazing intensity and boundless energy as she performed her maiden concert in India. The three-hour concert all but left the fans hypnotised with the belly dancing moves of the Latino singing sensation at the MMRDA grounds in the Bandra-Kurla Complex in suburban Mumbai. The Mumbai stopover is part of Shakira`s `Oral Fixation` tour.
The concert, which was a huge sell-out, had several `firsts` for music concerts in India with a giant LED (liquid electronic displays) wall installed instead of the ordinary LCD (liquid crystal display) wall and superior lighting effects. In another first in India, Shakira was carried by an Austin crane into the audience, there were ramps that came into the arena so that even crowds farthest from the stage got a close-up glimpse of her. She belted out hits as `Hips don`t lie`, `Don`t bother` and `Illegal` from her `Oral Fixation` album. Shakira also enthralled her Indian fans with performances from her hugely popular previous chartbusters `Whenever wherever`, `Underneath your clothes` and `Objection tango`.
And what better way to end her debut concert in India, and than with the hugely popular Hips Don't Lie number?
