India’s third medal winner at the Olympics Vijender Kumar is hot property because of his good looks, but he’s unfazed by the attention. In fact, he says he’s ready to start modelling! “Once I’m back in India, I’ll get very busy with lots of work. Meanwhile, I also have been getting loads of endorsement offers, but nothing has been finalised. Mere liye modelling karna naya nahin hai. Main iske liye tayyar hun,” he says.
Vijender Kumar carried the Indian flag at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, and says the moment was the greatest in his life. “It was an honour to carry the Indian flag. I’m really overjoyed,” he gushes.
Meanwhile, he says, he spoke to his family after winning the bronze, and the medal will have to be his gift to them, because he’s done no shopping in China. But did he feel dejected that he lost out on the gold? “I certainly did. But at the same time, I feel good ki India mein boxing ke liye maine raasta toh khol diya. I’m sure that in the next Olympics, I will win a gold. Mujhe lagta hai ki jisse mein haara, uska din tha aur uska luck ki woh final tak pahunch gaya. Besides, my teammates are very happy and told me, ‘Tune toh history create ki hai... aur ab hum tumse bhi seekhenge. Next time, hum bhi kuch different karenge’.”
