LONDON: Staff at the Promises clinic, where Britney Spears checked herself into last month, has been put on a 'suicide watch', after the singer reportedly tried to hang herself with a bed sheet.

Britney had friends and family worried sick when paramedics were rushed to the clinic recently, and now a friend has revealed that medics were called because she tried to commit suicide. Just before she tried to hang herself, the pal said, Britney wrote 666 on her shaved head, and ran around the clinic screaming "I am the Antichrist!"

"She is still very vulnerable. Last Saturday she said she had the number 666 written onto her bald head. She was crying, and shouting, 'I am the Antichrist!' The clinic people just didn't know what to do. Then she started screaming, 'I'm a fake! I'm a fake!' It must have been really frightening," the News of the World quoted the pal, as saying.

"Later that night she tried to kill herself. She attached a sheet to a light and tied it around her neck. Paramedics were called, but luckily she was unhurt," the pal added.

A source at the clinic also revealed to the paper that Britney had realised what a 'rock' her estranged hubby was, and that she not only wanted them to get back together, but also to have another baby. "She just wants to be with him again," the source said.

LOS ANGELES: Britney Spears is reported to have left a Malibu rehabilitation centre on Wednesday, just 24 hours after checking herself in, following weeks of troubling behavior culminating in shaving her own head.

Celebrity websites TMZ.com, theinsideronline.com and People.com reported that the singer left what should have been a month-long programme at the Promises residential centre on Wednesday morning.

Later in the day, TMZ.com also reported that Britney’s estranged husband, Kevin Federline, has asked a judge for an emergency hearing on Thursday to discuss the couple's dispute over custody of their two sons, 1-year-old Sean Preston and 5-month-old Jayden James.

A court official said that Federline and his attorney were scheduled to appear before a judge, but details were not provided. Currently Britney and Federline, who is seeking sole custody and spousal support, have joint custody of the children.

Britney’s departure from Promises marked the second time in less than a week that she had reportedly sought help at a residential rehab center and then left a day later.

"It was against their advice," one unidentified source told People magazine. "If she comes back for treatment, Promises will have to assess the situation. Sometimes people come back but it doesn't look good."

Spears, whose life appears to have spiraled out of control since filing for divorce in November, shortly after giving birth to her second child, entered the facility voluntarily on Tuesday. Her manager, Larry Rudolph, issued a statement asking for privacy.

The pop princess who shot to fame at the age of 16 was pictured on Tuesday with her newly-shaved head, smoking a cigarette and wearing a pink T-shirt on the balcony of the luxury centre, whose celebrity clientele has included Robert Downey Jr., Ben Affleck and Matthew Perry.

Britney made world headlines during the weekend after shaving her own head at a Los Angeles-area salon following weeks of partying at clubs in Hollywood, Las Vegas and New York since her split from Federline.

The hair-shaving incident raised concern among family and friends about her mental state and followed reports that Spears had entered rehab on the Caribbean island of Antigua last week, only to drop out 24 hours later. On Sunday, she was pictured at a Hollywood nightclub wearing a cheap blond wig over her bare head.

Over the past few months, Spears has raised eyebrows for her heavy partying, sometimes with celebrity heiress Paris Hilton, and a series of pictures that caught the Grammy-winning entertainer wearing no underwear under her short skirts.

Multiple theories have been offered as to why she shaved her head. They range form reports that her hair extensions had lice, that she told the hairdresser she no longer wanted to be touched and that Federline wanted to take DNA samples from her hair to test it for drugs or alcohol.

LOS ANGELES: Britney Spears appeared in a tattoo parlour in California with her head shaved completely bald.

Video on KATV showed the newly shorn Spears with tiny tattoos on the back of her neck as she sat on Friday night for a new tattoo--a pair of red and pink lips.

"She just wanted something real small on her wrist, something dainty," Max Gott, the tattoo artist at Body and Soul in Sherman Oaks, told the TV station. "She got some cute little lips on her wrist."

Derrik Snell, who works at the tattoo parlour, said Spears showed up without notice and stayed for about 90 minutes as about 60 fans, photographers and gawkers gathered outside.

"She seemed fine," Snell said. "I didn't really notice (the hairdo) at first, she had a hood on when she showed up."

The appearance came the same day as reports on TV and Web sites that Spears, who has drawn criticism for her recent partying and sloppy behaviour, had briefly checked into rehab.

Larry Rudolph, Spears' manager, could not be reached for comment.

Syndicated entertainment TV show Extra first reported that Spears had entered a treatment facility. Celebrity Web site TMZ.com then said the singer had entered a treatment center but had checked out one day later. Neither revealed their sources.

People magazine's Website, citing "a source", said Spears had gone in and out of rehab, and identified the facility as Eric Clapton's Crossroads center on the Caribbean island of Antigua.
