Kajol Biography
Kajol was born on August 5, 1975 in Mumbai, India in a Bengali family to Mr. Shomu Mukherjee and Tanuja (mother-an actress). Kajol started her career at the age of seventeen, with her debut film Bekhudi in 1992. Kajol found good screen chemistry with Shahrukh Khan. In fact, all five movies which starred them as a lead couple have become successful: Baazigar (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001).
She also made a successful screen couple with Ajay Devgan in movies such as Ishq (1997) and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998). Eventually Kajol got married to Ajay Devgan.
In 2005 Kajol appeared in a Tv show Kaun Banega Crorepati along with their husband, and they won 1 crore rupees and they donated the money for a cancer hospital in Chennai.
Kajol had several hits to her credit in the past but is now returning to Bollywood after a lapse of five years in the film "Fanna" directed by Yash Chopra. Aamir Khan and Tabu, are starring in Yash Chopra's 'Fanaa' besides Kajol. However, she has also appeared in some television ads recently. Kajol said that she won't be working full time in Bollywood. She will be doing one movie a year or so. Kajol said she is doing films as hubby and daughter also in reallife.
Fanna's cast comprising Kajol, Aamir Khan and Tabu has reached the city to shoot their movie at Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Purana Quila, Qutab Minar and Lodhi Gardens, besides Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi Railway Station, and Kaudia Pul (very close to the station). Producers secured the permission from the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) for shooting for nine days at the cost of Rs 5000 a day. Only a small area of the monuments will be allowed for the shooting and visitors can tour other areas of the monuments, according to ASI. Visiters are still allowd into the monument. This decision has been taken by ASI following public protests some two years back when the entry to the Tughlaqabad Fort was banned during the shooting of Hrithik Roshan - starrer 'Lakshya'.
Ajay Devgan and Kajol dated for 5 years and ended up marrying her on February 24, 1999. Kajol and hubby Ajay Devganhave a daughter Nysa. She took a sabbatical from acting after Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), in which she almost stole the show, and won a few Best Actress awards. Kajol always dresses for comfort. She is not really bothered about her style and fashion.
Five years later, when she decided to do another film, it came as a surprise that she chose Aamir Khan as her co-star, as opposed to her close friend Shah Rukh Khan.
What did not come as a surprise, however, was her brilliant performance in Fanaa, and the fact that we fell in love with her all over again. Kajol has signed up for another film U, Me Aur Hum. The actress says that she’s not in a hurry to sign other films. "I was always choosy and I’ve become choosier about scripts. I need to find something that is worth leaving home because I have a great time at home," she says. Filmmaker Kunal Kohli, who made the film Fanaa , says, “Kajol had a range of performances in Fanaa . It is the dignity and talent that a woman brings to the role and people accept her. We have to give our audiences the credit for being mature enough to understand it.”
