Kareena Kapoor Biography
As the name indicates Kareena Kapoor is part of the Kapoor family. Kareena Kapoor was born on September 21, 1980. She attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and then went to Welham Girl's Boarding School in Dehradun. Kareena Kapoor returned to Mumbai to attend Mithibai College where she did her commerce.
Kareena Kapoor is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita, who divorced when Kareena was still young. Rishi Kapoor is one of her uncles. Her sister, Karisma Kapoor, is also an actress. Her other relatives include maternal aunt Sadhana, and cousins Shivani Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Nikhil Nanda who is currently married to Shweta Bachchan-Nanda who is the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan. When she was younger she would frequently accompany her sister to film shoots. Though born into a film family, Kareena at first wanted to become a lawyer.
Kareena Kapoor went to Harvard for summer school and while she was there she took a course in microcomputers and information technology. Set on pursuing an acting career, she completed her twelth standard and joined the film industry. Kareena also attended the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting school.
Kareena Kapoor was supposed to make her debut opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, for six days Kareena Kapoor worked for the project, then walked out. Her first movie to release was J. P. Dutta's 2000 film Refugee opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Though the picture did not do well her performance was praised. Kareena Kapoor also received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Debut category. Her first major success in a starring role was in the 2001 film Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai. Her films in 2001 were Ajnabee and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which turned out to be hits at the box office, but Asoka opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Yaadein opposite Hrithik Roshan failed to create magic. Kareena Kapoor sang for herself on the song "Jab Nahin Aye The Tum", for the movie Dev. This is unusual; most songs are sung by playback singers. The song was a pop hit.
In 2002, her films Mujhse Dosti Karoge and Jeena Sirf Mere Liye flopped. Her releases in 2003: Taalash, Khushi and LOC Kargil flopped, but Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon was her sole release that year that did good business. Kareena Kapoor, granddaughter of India's greatest showman Raj Kapoor, shed her star image to play a commercial sex worker in a low-budget film Chamili directed by Sudhir Mishra. Chamili is based on one night love story featuring Kapoor and actor Rahul Bose. Picture Chameli was her first release in 2004, the film failed but Kareena Kapoor recieved rave reviews for her performance of a prostitute. Her next few releases were Yuva, Dev, and Fida, in which Kareena Kapoor played a negative role for the first time. All these films turned out to be flops at the box office. It looked like box office success was eluding her, but Kareena bounced back with her other films Aitraaz and Hulchul in 2004, which turned out to be hits at the box office.
2005 had Kareena begin with Bewafaa and Kyon Ki which failed at the box office. Her final release in 2005 was Dosti: Friends Forever, which was a hit. 2006 seems to be the best year of Bebo(other name of Kareena Kapoor), as her three releases 36 China Town, Chup Chup Ke, and Omkara have turned out to be big grossers at the box office. Omkara silenced the critics, who labelled her as a flop actress. Kareena Kapoor showed them that she had the Kapoor genes within her and the fact that Kareena has survived through the worst of her career.
Kareena Kapoor was a part of a big controversy when a nude clip of her was circulated on MMS in early 2005. Kareena Kapoor, however denied that the clip was hers. Unfortunately for her and fortunately for the public, close inspection showed that the woman in the clip was indeed Kareena herself. The picture was a nasty act of vouyerism done by an over-enthused fan from South Africa.
