Rakhi Sawant Biography

Rakhi Sawant was born in Mumbai to ACP Sawant who works with Mumbai police. ACP Sawant belongs to a concervative Marathi Hindu family in Mumbai. She has a brother, Rakesh and a sister, Jaya. Rakhi studied in Goklibai School, Vile Parle and later studied Arts at Mithibai College

Rakhi Sawant got an oppertunity to do an item number through director Suneel Darshan opposite Govinda in Joru ka Gulam. She was in school at this time.Three years later, she auditioned four times before winning her breakthrough Item number Mohabbat hai Mirchi in Chura Liya Hai Tumne in 2003. During this period she fell out with her father who despised the film industry. ACP Sawant, a conservative man, felt that acting was not a respectable profession. However her mother Usha Sawant(she herself has acted in a Gujarathi cinema) supported ambitious and determined Rakhi sawant.

Rakhi SawantRakhi sawants father is very much against her and heft the family and stayes separated from the family. Her sister is married off after a brief cariier in films. Her brother Rakesh is an aspiring director who has a full support of Rakhi Sawant.

The term ‘item girl’ has probably emerged from the literal translation of the typically local lingo we hear so often: “Kya cheez hai boss!” It is ironical that Ishaa Koppikar’s ‘Khallas’ was just the beginning of this ‘IG’ phenomena.

Rakhi Sawant made people sit up and take notice in ‘Mohabbat Hai Mirchi’ from the Esha Deol-Zayed Khan flick ‘Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne’. Rakhi had made her debut in ‘Joru Ka Ghulam’ dancing to ‘Khulla hai mera pinjra’ opposite Govinda but decided that she wanted to do more than just dance to hot numbers. So she started to do itsy-bitsy sleaze cameos and now she’s the first choice for a sex scene cameo in Bollywood.

Sawant has attracted a great deal of attention by appearing on stage and screen in very skimpy outfits. While this has increased her popularity, it has caused her to face flak from many quarters. In May 2006, she was booked for obscenity by the Kolhapur Police, after a stage show in the city. She was let off with a warning. A month later, she was again in the news when she filed a molestation case against pop singer Mika, younger brother of Daler Mehndi, who forcibly kissed her at his birthday party, where she was a guest. Rakhi SawantControversial item girl Rakhi Sawant, whose reportedly obscene dances in past shows here had sparked a row, was prevented by Hyderabad city police from performing at a show organized by a real estate firm. Rakhi Sawant was forced to pack up Sunday night and leave Hyderabsd city as police insisted that she should not be allowed to perform.

The show organisers had apparently failed to mention her name while taking permission from the police to stage the show at Vijaybhaskar Reddy indoor stadium. However, other performers including singing star Vasundhara Das and Telugu film actresses Sangeetha and Tanu Rai performed.

The show was held by a real estate firm as part of its annual celebrations. The organisers had taken prior police permission for the event, but failed to mention the names of the performers including Rakhi Sawant.

After the organisers announced through advertisements in newspapers that Rakhi Sawant would also perform, the police swung into action and made it clear that they would not allow any show by the controversial performer. Denied permission to perform, Rakhi left the city in a huff. She was to leave for Mumbai on Monday but advanced her flight.

Jubliee Hills police inspector M. Srinivas Rao said: "Allowing her to perform without permission could have led to a law and order problem." According to police, the organisers had sought permission only for presentation of awards to the company employees, a lucky draw and a light musical programme.

About 800 people were invited for the event. The organisers had even informed police that they were making their own security arrangements and did not require any security by police.

However, after learning that Rakhi Sawant would also perform, dozens of policemen descended at the venue and said they would not allow any performance by her. Her alleged obscene performance, costumes and suggestive gestures at a show recently in Kolhapur in Maharashtra had sparked a row with police registering a case against her. Rakhi Sawant was later denied permission for many shows in that state.
